Lineage 14.1 and gapps

Open KidCoding opened this issue 7 years ago • 5 comments

Hi, I am experiencing some issues with the UnifiedNLP. My phone is running Lineage 14.1 with gapps (the pico package).

I have followed the tutorial to make unifiedNLP work with Gapps.

  • install UnifiedNLP (GAPPS) package from F-droid
  • configure backends
  • install XposedUnifiedNLP (from here https://repo.xposed.info/module/de.r3w6.xposedunifiednlp )

After that, in the self check status, I have two "errors":

  • System support location provider Your system does not support this unifed package *UnifiedNLP is registered in system The system did not bind the UnifiedNLP service.

"Location backend set up" and "Network based location enabled" are both checked but the it says that Unified has no last known location and No UnifiedNlp location was provided by the system

(I've rebooted the phone multiple times.)

Do you have any clue about my issue?

Thanks

If you're running GApps, shouldn't Google provide network location? Have you tried opening a maps app and checking if you get an approximate (network) location? If you're going to install GApps why are you on this particular fork, that is basically trying to replace google functionality?

@gaviidae: UnifiedNLP (GAPPS) is done specifically to keep all GApps except the network location that is done through UnifiedNlp.

@KidCoding: It can be that XposedUnifiedNLP isn't installed corectly or it doesn't work, for both cases you should report it here.

@gaviidae Actually, I've installed the pico GAPPS package mainly for the playstore and not to have my location sent to Google. When I flashed LineageOS, I didn't know about Yalp Store alternative. Otherwise, I would have not installed the gapps package.

@KidCoding If you want you can also use my microG unofficial installer that install microG + only Google PlayStore without the rest of GApps.

If you only want to install UnifiedNLP you can use "unifiednlp-minimal_2018-08-17.zip" available here: https://github.com/WeAreFairphone/flashable-zip_microG/releases/tag/2018-08-17 Their are build instructions as well. I tested it on LineageOS 15.1 on Nexus 4 (mako)

Please pay attention to the following:

Concerning the impossibility of launching the UnifiedNLP app, this is happening on all devices (see this forum thread). I don't know why it can't be launched normally on Oreo, but you can still access the UnifiedNLP configurations through "Location settings" (tap and hold the notification bar quick-setting for toggling location), and at the bottom (“Location services”) you’ll find an entry for launching it.
