Feature Request: Include Huawei-related Release Artifacts in F-Droid Repository

Open xxgj opened this issue 8 months ago • 10 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I noticed in the release notes that microG versions are also distributed through Huawei AppGallery.

However, I've been unable to locate microG in the Huawei AppGallery, even after trying different region settings.

Describe the solution you'd like Would it be possible to consider distributing the Huawei-related microG release artifacts through the microG F-Droid repository as well?

Describe alternatives you've considered I understand that I could download the official releases from GitHub release page and download website.

However, according to https://github.com/microg/GmsCore/wiki/Downloads :

As microG apps are in rapid development, please consider using the F-Droid repository to always have the newest version.

I would prefer using the F-Droid repository to always have the newest version.

@xxgj

do you know you can update automatically from github releases with Obtainium? you don't need an f-droid repo.

@xxgj It isn't likely possible, since both the normal and the hw builds have the same internal name they canNOT be separate elements in the same F-Droid repo.

Hey @Lanchon , thank you so much for your assistance! I've tested it on my end, and it's working perfectly:)

Hi @ale5000-git ,

Thank you for your response and clarification.

Wondering if it is possible to create a dedicated F-Droid repository specifically for Huawei-related release artifacts?

I understand this might require significant resources or may not be feasible at this time.

If the implementation proves too challenging or resource-intensive, please don't hesitate to close this issue.

I greatly appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing this request.

@xxgj

good to know obtanium worked.

@ale5000-git

since you already have the infrastructure in place to populate the fdroid repo, maybe you can consider a second repo for huawei.

it if is useful, the latest huawei release artifacts have been downloaded 4K+ times in less than 4 weeks. the previous release artifacts were downloaded 120K+ times. (see stats.)

Actually I don't remember exactly but it is possible that it is manually maintained. We should wait a reply from @mar-v-in

Regarding Huawei AppGallery: Huawei does some filtering on when to show microG in AppGallery, not only based on region, but also based on the device you use. Both China and Germany are supported regions (Huawei whitelists each region manually after verifying microG usage is compliant with local regulation). So likely it is that your device or firmware is not considered supported by Huawei - which might be accidental. If you share the device and firmware version you use and can confirm microG to work correctly (via self-check), I can try to have it added to the list of supported devices.

Adding a second f-droid repository with the Huawei releases would be possible, but I fear it might cause confusion for some users. I would prefer if we can sort this out solely using AppGallery.

Hi @mar-v-in ,

Thank you for the clarification.

Got it, adding a second F-Droid repository might not be necessary since my case appears to be accidental.

Thanks so much for helping me reach this conclusion!

Sure! Not sure the exact meaning of the device and firmware version, but I noticed that the model name is nova 8 Pro and the model number is BRQ-AN00.
