Can confirm the original posted issue - I think this is a legitimate bug (or at least should be a toggle in settings).

If this is still being pursued... what yorik mentioned in the last comment would be amazing. Looking at Thunderbird, a customizable/functional title bar looks really clean and saves significant screen...
