$PROGDIR variable replaced by empty string under MacOS

the $PROGDIR variable within my [emulator].cfg file is replaced by an empty string on my Mac setup. This applies to all cases I have used it for, such as to define the path where the emulator executable is, or the path to the menu-art (wheels, snap, etc.)

FYI - The $HOME variable does work as expected, replacing the variable with a string of my user's home directory path.

Hardware information: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) OS: MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 AM version: 2.6.1
