ran setup config on password protected db

didnt notice until i went to connect that a typo had been made and i had tried to connect to a password protected db , ive tried (after backing db) to dropuser and drop db to see if that would reset it to do a config again, how can i get it to run through set up again, where does it save the .conf file?
