Dash To Dock causes double letter entry in Gnome Search

Open ksthiele opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

Hello, after looking for the root cause of double letters in Gnome Search I found out that this extension was the cause, I'm using Fedora Silverblue with latest updates.

simply disabling the extension won't be able to reproduce it, you have to restart the system

Can you be more specific? Writing in the search entry will give you double letters?

exactly

No clue how this could happen, do you have other extensions enabled? Can you try disable them all and use only the dock to be sure?

I'm quite sure it's not related to this project, already saw bug report on GNOME project.

I don't know, but I rebased to Fedora 36 Silverblue and had to use this dock extension again it worked fine until I had to restart, now I have the double letters again, when I disable it and restart, it works fine again. Am I really the only experiencing this with this extension?

I'm months late in this bug report, but I'd like to report it as well. After facing it for a while, I read about it being related with dash to dock and it seems to me the extension causes it. I'm on latest Arch Linux and latest Gnome (43.1), but I faced it in Gnome 42 too (I don't think it's related to Gnome version though). Some useful information:

  • Restarting the shell (Alt+F2, r) makes it work fine.
  • Disabling the extension without restarting the shell doesn't make it work.
  • Starting a brand new shell with the extension disabled makes it work.

Just for the record, I'm not saying this extension always causes this issue. I've seen it being reported more than a year ago while I started facing it just in the last 2 months, and also I've recently installed Arch on a friend of mine's machine (Surface Go) with a configuration pretty similar to mine one (vanilla Arch, Gnome 43, some extensions and obviously dash to dock) and it's not happening. I guess this is not related just to this extension, but maybe to a combination of factors that I haven't figured out yet. Hoping this will have a read and maybe a fix in the near future.

I've just seen there's a more recent issue reporting this with far more activity: #1855. Not gonna report it there though, as the problem is already known as well as temporary workarounds.

Use Dash to dock for cosmic until this resolves. LINK. Resolves for me... A long time looking for a solutions. This error is very annoying.
