docker-fixed:false - Dock does not appear on mouse over

Open jakubklos77 opened this issue 5 years ago • 15 comments

I have reported this issue in Ubuntu 20.04 bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870519

Where as this works properly on Ubuntu 18.04 with the official Dock package, it does not work on latest Ubuntu 20.04 beta with the default Dock package.

Issue:

  1. Set in dconf-editor /org/gnome/shell/extensions/dash-to-dock/docker-fixed:false

  2. Maximize the dconf-editor window so the dock disappears

  3. Now, move mouse to the dock area but the dock will never appear

(on 18.04 this works properly - using the same dconf properties in both 20.04 and 18.04)

I can't reproduce this, dock is showing properly here.

Do you use any particular setup (multi-monitor or anything?)

No particular setup. All is tested under VirtualBox, clean installation of Ubuntu 20.04 (tried with today updates). As soon as I move the mouse to the area where the dock is hidden nothing happens. What should I try to troubleshoot this issue? Thank you

@3v1n0 I see this issue on ArchLinux running v68 of dash-to-dock on Gnome 3.36 with a dual monitor setup. I don't see this on my laptop (so it could be the dual display setup that is causing this?).

I can fix it after boot by disabling/enabling dash-to-dock via tweak tool, so i am wondering if there is a race condition during startup?

I also noticed that when it is in the broken state that the dock on my left monitor doesn't show any favourite apps but the right monitor does (neither dock pops up on mouse over at the bottom with a full screen app).

I tried uninstalling the gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package, restarting the gnome-shell, then installing it back again and restarting the gnome-shell. This didn't help. The dock still does not when hidden on mouse over.

In my VBox environment I use only a single monitor So it must be something else for me but I am 100% positive, anybody can reproduce this on a VBox

Try disabling and re-enabling the extension in gnome tweak tool to see if we have the same issue as me.

The strange thing is that I don't have "dash-to-dock" in the Tweaks under Extensions. I only have "Ubuntu dock" but that is already disabled. It seems it has no effect on the dock (even if enabled). This was the default after installing Ubuntu 20.04 - no changes there.

Even if disable the global Extensions switcher on the top, the docker is still visible. That's why I used the package removal way to try what you mentioned above...

I have the same issue, has anyone come up with a way to fix this?

Some boots it works just fine. When it doesn't I open up gnome extensions and disable and reenable all extensions fixes it. It's almost like the extensions are behind the windows.

I think it is a race condition during boot.

Someone else with same issue. Somtimes enable/disable will fix, but not always on the first attempt. Seems to be a problem logging in under Wayland, doesn't happen the same way not using Wayland.

(But other idiosyncracies with autohide then opening and closing immediately open under some not fully understood circumstances, so problems under both, but different)

Update: Under Wayland on Ubunto 20.10, always fails to work on login to a new session. Seems to be reproducibly fixed by going into settings/appearance and changing 'Show on' from current setting to the alternate setting. Doesn't matter what is set, but changing it seems to reliably fix as a workaround for the session.

Had the same issue, after setting Preffered Monitor setting in dconf to default it has been fixed

Interesting.

I have just uninstalled the dock and then reset the settings in dconf editor (it removes all the settings) after I reinstalled/reconfigured it has completely cured the issue for me (I have rebooted several times to check). So I guess it was an old/corrupt setting that was causing the issue for me.

This fixed the issue on Ubuntu 20.04 (GNOME Shell 3.36.4) for me:

  1. Uninstall the extension
  2. Delete file org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock.gschema.xml from /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/
  3. Restart GNOME Shell ALT + F2 + r
  4. Reinstall the extension

I also faced a similar problem in my ubuntu-20.04(GNOME Shell 3.36.4), I resolved it this way:

  1. open settings for dash to dock extension.
  2. open settings for intelligent autohide.
  3. uncheck option for Push to show: require pressure to show the dock

I fixed it by using this extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4703/dock-from-dash/
