Support for React 18 within Fluent UI v8 and v9 have been merged via #22592. On next release you will be able to install those packages into React 18 apps.

I would suggest looking to see if you can remove the northstar dependency from this library. You should be able to migrate most Northstar code to v9 now. https://react.fluentui.dev/?path=/docs/concepts-migration-from-v0-components-avatar-migration--page

Your codepen demo is failing due to errors with the Text component.
