It's a free (to get started) alternative to S3, and works great on Heroku: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cloudinary-image-management-and-manipulation-in-the-cloud-cdn/

Great plugin, thanks for that @scottsd, exactly what I needed. I don't have an opinion whether it should be bundled here, but maybe at least should have a mention in the readme.

@mhoofman To enable the plugin, you need an account, same as S3.
