Alright - submitted a PR over in [xwrf-data](https://github.com/xarray-contrib/xwrf-data/pull/33)! Added some docs to the readme too, figured it would be good include in a separate "catalogs" directory.
While the tests are still failing (due to changing values) I would be interested to get feedback from @dopplershift / @jthielen on this approach... does this make sense? I tried...
