Image grid & gallery

Open desandro opened this issue 9 years ago • 46 comments

I've always liked how Tumblr handles multiple photos in its photosets. The image grid nicely features multiple images, while still being readable.

Tumblr photoset

Clicking on an image shows the image, but keeps you within the gallery. You can navigate to the next or previous image in this zoomed-in view.

Tumblr photoset gallery

How about a library that does this for any group of images.

scan

Features

  • Takes a list of images/thumbnails and displays them in a nice grid
  • The library will figure out the best layout, by You can customize how the grid is composed: how many images in each row. Or let the library figure out the best layout
  • lazyLoad
  • slidable gallery after image clicked

Add your +1 if you'd like to see Metafizzy release this image grid & gallery library.

Can this be built into Isotope? I combined the Isotope masonry layout/filters with Photoswipe for this test project. It has similar functionality to the Tumblr layout / image gallery, but it was not easy to get the two libraries to play well together.

Interestingly, this project does the grid layout part of what you're talking about here.

i have this layout here: https://github.com/jonathanong/horizontal-grid-packing that uses this algorithm https://github.com/jayrbolton/linear-partitioning

people keep asking me to work on it, but i haven't used it in ages.

problem with a lot of the other versions is that they don't handle the last image correctly and they're usually bloated with stuff like jquery
