Is this bug report about any UI component firmware like InkHUD or Meshtatic UI (MUI)?

  • [ ] Meshtastic UI aka MUI colorTFT
  • [ ] InkHUD ePaper
  • [ ] OLED slide UI on any display

Firmware Version

2.7.15

Description

The messages retrieved get put in totally different channels. Or sometimes there is a new "discussion" with "Channel Name" as the "channel name" (😁)

I guess every single node now needs to have the exact same channel list (and same order) for it to work (which isn't practical at all in many situations, too restrictive. Especially when it can totally mess discussions' threads when random messages get put in wrong channel's threads).

Maybe a mechanism that targets the proper channels should be added? (whatever its position is on someone's node)...Not sure if this is an app issue or firmware.

It would match by PSK instead of just the slot position of the channel. I don't know the technicalities, but how it works now is

I’ve had so many weird bugs when scanning channel settings, duplicates, etc. It looks to be the same type of problem, maybe same "bug"?.

I wanted to use it because it's so practical to get missed messages, because a nodes was "offline", or not reachable.

Store and forward can be very useful, but not in its current form, imo.

Thank you.

Agreed.

Even if the weird behaviour is not easy to fix, at least a guide on what the configuration needs to looks like to work around it and get S&F to work would be much appreciated.

Having all device with the same channels' list in the same order I think is the way to have it work every time. But it's maybe too restrictive. I don't know what's possible, I just know that when I retrieve messages, they went all over the place on a device that had 3 channels not in the same slots order 😝

That's one requirement, but it's also not well documented at all which devices can do what and what the settings need to be in the S&F module on what device.

E.g. I'm still not sure if a T-Deck can be a S&F Server.
