@garthvh I don't think that all nodes you dm should be favorited. Maybe a new feature should be added to firmware to just mark recently dmed nodes as more "interesting" since favoriting a node always shows them at the top and would be strange if that action was done for you automatically and not nodes specifically favorited by the user.

I think this is a good sensible default actually. It's a good way to preserve interesting nodes from rolling off the nodedb in a way that doesn't require user interaction. It's also pretty trivial unfavorite.

But it breaks the favourite function’s original intent. I’m part of a fairly small mesh (currently have 60 nodes in my DB, 15 to 30 online at any one point). I send DMS to many of the nodes. I only keep my second node favourited, because I most interested in coverage between my home note and wherever I’m travelling. Now I’m going to have around half of the active nodes in my favourites at all the time?

It does not, the intent of the feature which was originally implemented on iOS is to improve user's messaging experience. The No Channel error is a very confusing experience for new and inexperienced users and is what is being worked on here, advanced users have an amazing ability to adapt their workflows and this will be no exception to that.
