Any way to define functions or encapsulating common components?

PlantUML offers a very simple programming language where I'm using it define functions to define common components across my diagrams. For example, if I have a project with hundreds of components (e.g. from a C4 diagram), I'm defining them in a components directory and I reference them through my diagrams. Does mermaid offer something like this?
