Open GPX tracker 2.0 Design
Discussion about future redesign of a 2.0 version
Open GPX tracker started in 2014 as a pet project that I used to learn Swift programming language and to solve a personal need. Although the interaction design had a few small issues, the application was simple with an explicit UI easy to use. It has been 6 years since the app was designed so a new refresh would be interesting.
However, in order to avoid disruption for the existing users, the future design should maintain the roots of the existing design.
Wishes:
-Waypoints in different colors.
- Possibility external devices/bluetooth/ sets tracking on/off. Like camera push button. and/or switch to different color(s). ( recording road surface, like dirttrack )
- loading multiple maps
- loaded maps in different color then recording track(s). ( in options, set the color)
- color also in recorded track
- via options, automatic save , every xx minutes, in new file ( to oft pushed the reset button / crash while creating waypoints, etc)
I live this app! It helps not only to trace gpx to geo IfE my photos taken with a camera without gps, but also actually as an offline map! I have some suggestions:
-
with OSM cache offline version of a specific region in demand. This actually works if you zoom at all levels and move around. It will generate the cache but it will easier to automate this. “Cache +- x km around you at max Y zoom level”
-
ability to batch/automatically export gpx files to the “files“ app on iOS, in my case iCloud.
-
modify the design of OSM and display the names of features a bit bigger. It’s really hard to read on iOS with Retina display.
Hi there,
Thanks for this nice looking app :)
I guess my main point is iCloud sync for smoother file management.
In terms of UI, top buttons could be more usable.
Add support for sailing units (nautical miles, knots)
Kind of vue for Apple Watch for better instant performance data review, like Speed/Heading
Thanks, Philippe
