[DISCUSSION] Genome-view meeting notes
I will be posting notes from genome-view meetings here which will hopefully stimulate great discussions regarding its development! 🧬
February 3, 2022
- Time to start using github projects more efficiently! We will now translate meeting action items into TODOs on the project page
- @matthewlawrenceklein and @isaacfink21 are working on ephemeral tooltip bugs
- @mschecht will write out biologist use cases for
genome-viewto help guide the direction of the project - Went over different sources of DNA that are stored in
contigDBs: metagenomic contigs, plasmids, genomes, operons, etc.
@matthewlawrenceklein and @isaacfink21 please fill in anything I missed 👍

- We had a great genome-view demo on Tuesday and got excellent suggestions. At the moment, these seem like the most actionable items to address:
- genome-view will now get a tabular modal. There should be a seamless experience shifting between viewing linear gene arrows in the view port and a tabular representation of the genomic data. This is empower the using to quickly explore and manipulate groups of genes in the window
- Add more tabs to settings bar: currently users need to scroll though the settings pain to access all of the dials and knobs, this should be organized better into tabs:
- Mouse menu (which is replace ephemeral tool tip)
- Search annotations
- Settings (display settings)
- Add canvas element to prepare for Case B (multi-locus visualizing) items order

- @isaacfink21 and I caught up and defined his timeline for participation in the project until he graduates
- Back of the napkin, he has a minimum of 60 more hours to contribute
- We roughly reorganized the project board and will meet weekly to reassess bite-sized objectives.
genome-view here we come!
