Text Colour Customization

Open Marstead opened this issue 4 years ago • 1 comments

Because text colours are fixed in the client, resource pack developers need to avoid certain background colors in order for the text to remain legible. The Runelite "Chat Colours" plugin can resolve some of these issues, however, not all sources of text are customizable. For example, the text input area in the bottom of the chatbox cannot be changed from black, and the color of overlay quantity text over items cannot be modified. In addition, resource pack developers would need to require users installing their pack to manually update the Chat Colours plugin.

This issue was opened as a Runelite feature request and closed with recommendation that it be opened under the Resource Pack plugin: https://github.com/runelite/runelite/issues/11959

Please add the ability for resource pack developers to customize all text colors in the chat box, dialogue box, and item quantity overlays.

Possibly make this a checkbox option next to "Allow overlay color to be changed", e.g. "Allow text colors to be changed".

With the current Runelite API that is provided to the plugin-hub plugins, there is not a good way that won't decrease in game performance. I have added the ability to change borders and some other little things that use colors. Adding this for text would be nearly impossible as it would need basically every variation of where that text would appear and as I said it would decrease performance.

As for the ones Chat colors plugin uses, I will have to take a look at. Other ones that are not done by Chat colors will have to wait until something fixes the things mentioned above. However I will leave this issue open, if anything that allows me to better handle those is made.

Have there been any improvements to RuneLite that would make this easier today? I'm mostly interested in customising text colour in the dialogue box.
