M3U files not working

What happened?

I'm trying to play music (mp3 and m4a) through playlist file (.m3u). It tries to play, but then just says "couldn't open file". I tried to make it in different formats, with absolute or relative paths, as normal M3U or EXTM3U etc. Does it need to be in a specific format? The mp3s opened directly play without problems.
