Upload doesn't finish

Open thany opened this issue 5 years ago • 1 comments

General Information

  • MEGA Version: 3.7.7

  • OS Version(s): Android 8.1

  • Devices/Simulators: Samsung Galaxy S9

  • Reproducible? (Yes/No): Yes

What happened?

I set it to upload a whole directory, which was about 800 files and 13GB. I kept the MEGA app in the foreground and just turned off the screen. After a few hours of presumably letting it do its thing, I came back to see it has only uploaded 7 files, and the rest of the queue had just vanished. It basically cancelled everything after those 7 files. (And mind you, a few hours should have been MORE than enough to finish the entire upload, given my bandwidth).

After trying again, this problem happened again. This time though, I let the screen turn itself off (iow, I didn't touch my phone). When I turned it back on a couple minutes later, I discovered that the notification for the ongoing upload was gone on the lockscreen. Unlocking my phone I discovered that the MEGA app had closed itself and was already starting itself back up, possibly thinking I wouldn't notice or something. No wonder the uploads cancelled.

What did you expect to happen?

When I set it to upload 800 files, I bloody well expect it to upload 800 files! If for whatever reason it has to stop uploading, I expect it to let me know why that happened, and offer an option to resume anyway. But better than that, just bloody get on with it. Google Drive can do this flawlessly, so there's no reason for MEGA not to be able to do the same.

If the app itself must be running in order to get files to upload, don't bloody close it, right?! If I'm not mistaken, normally an upload (or indeed, a download) with a well working cloud storage app, happens in a small background process that isn't closed when the main app closes.

This might have something to do with the fact that the GUI becomes unusable while uploading. It becomes so slow that the OS might offer to force-close it. Perhaps this is what's happening automatically in the background.
