Sync Issues when sync/backup locally encrypted files
I have 3 folders that are currently under sync on my Ubuntu/Mint PC. Two of them are regular folders, that I work on regularly and are monitored and synced in a timely manner.
The last one is an encrypted folder that I am unable of put under Sync of Backup no matter the changes I made. Any sync after the very first experiences errors like to one depicted in the picture.
Note that:
- this is only happening on the encrypted folder (gocryptfs -reverse src dst). Not encrypted folder are working normally.
- it is reported that some file is moved in Mega Folder. This is not true; I never touched the Mega folder. Only the sync application is acting on the remote folder.
- it is reported that some file is moved (actually renamed) in Local Folder. This is inaccurate either; affected files are edited, never moved into another existing name.
- issue is experienced frequently on changed files. Untouched local files are never reported as an issue.
- the issue is present either if I try to sync or backup the folder.
- the issue is very reproducible.
Because the folder I want to sync is encrypted on the fly, I tried 2 different approach:
- sync the encrypted folder directly. This is not possible because the encrypted folder is read only (because is created on the fly and not on disk)
- use rsync to periodically update a local folder. Rsync is set only to update changed files, then MegaSync is set to monitor the local folder on disk. This is the situation of the screenshot reported.
