Memory issue

Open marynka-develop opened this issue 3 years ago • 11 comments

Issue: MEGA takes up all RAM in a half an hour or less.

I am trying to fully sync the files (43.9 GB) on non-Windows HDD partition and after some time RAM becomes full. (At the moment I am only downloading all files with MEGA Desktop App to have them locally.) When I paused syncing, it released only one GB of RAM and remained like that. Only exiting completely from an app helps to clear RAM.

OS: Windows 10 20H2 MEGA version: 4.5.0. 64 bit (c11a688)

Hello, can you please tell us how many files do you have on your account? Thank you.

sakethv-mega avatar May 05 '21 04:05 sakethv-mega

143k files

But that issue never happend before. Even with more files.

Hello, we are making huge changes to the MEGAsync core and will also be implementing incremental loading/ paging in the future, which should be the permanent solution to high RAM usage issues. For now, excessive RAM usage with many nodes is somewhat expected. Thank you.

I cannot say if that's the same issue I was experiencing, but it appears that databases used for synchronization were messed up in my case, resulting in a serious memory leak. I have less than 30GBs at MEGA, but the app would eat up all my 32GB of RAM and my 64GB of swap, and then crash.

The solution was to delete the configuration files and set up the client again. I am on Linux, so I just had to delete the $HOME/.local/data/Mega Limited folder.

I hope that will helps.

I haven't tried to use MEGA 4.5.0 on Linux yet but I think that my problem is similar. Memory leak caused Windows GUI to break and the system to partially freeze. Could be messed up databases because I never had this problem before. Thank you for suggesting a solution.

Same problem observed on MacOS Big Sur .... if I keep it running for a few hours, it easily consumes 20GB+ of RAM. Workaround is to restart it regularly via a cronjob.

32 GB ram at 95% consumed just starting megasync... insane

So I noticed that whenever I clear the remote debris via the "Advanced" settings menu in the desktop app, my RAM usage suddenly drops massively. The remote debris easily reaches 10 GB in 1-3 days. I had just cleared it before taking the screenshot below.

A new version of the MEGAsync app is now available on our website for windows and macOS which includes a fix for the memory leak issue. Please install the new version and let us know if the issue perists. Thank you.

When I pause sync, memory usage remains almost on the same level as it was before pause (e.g. 401,3 Mb right before pause remain almost the same when sync is paused (+- 0.1 Mb change)). Is it normal? Shouldn't memory usage drop down?

I have same problema since 4.5.0 to the new 4.6.1 the app keeps insame ram ussage. It is not even syncing and it uses to much ram Captura de Pantalla 2021-12-02 a la(s) 1 04 20 p  m

I did xanoni recomended with no luck, I cleard synDebris and it keeps using to much ram

Almost 6gb of ram for doing nothing? I just keet updating all new version to espect that solve the problem but nothing makes mega to stay normal

Has this been accomplished? It's been 1.5 years since this announcement, yet I see no difference. I only have 78GB of files (about 120k files in 13k folders), yet it consistently uses 8-10+ GB of RAM. This is completely unacceptable. I've done the whole reset procedure as advised and also cleared all sync debris and file versions, yet still the same.

Hi @jmadren, We are currently working on next MEGAsync version that will include enhancements to reduce RAM usage while loading your account. It is scheduled to be released approx in a couple of weeks with staged rollout.

These improvements will be part of future v4.8.5 version.

Thanks for your patience.
