Megasync keeps downloading files between two computers

Open picmaniac opened this issue 6 years ago • 6 comments

Hello everyone,

I'm having a very annoying problem with megasync lately. Since last December every file that I try to sync keeps uploading/downloading in both computers I'm using. It is like megasync sees the recently downloaded file in the second computer as a new version of the file and it uploads it again, which in turn, is downloaded again in the first computer, which uploads it again, and this behavior is repeated on and on. This only happens with new/modified files, older/unmodified files are not disturbed. I have already tried to fix this problem by erasing the debris/rubbish folder in both computers and reinstalling megasync, but nothing works.

I'm attaching megasync log files of both computers. If anyone has a clue of what is happening, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks for your attention.

Hi, Looking at the log files, there are some problems setting mtime for downloaded file "hola.txt" (throwing errno 1 -> operation not permitted), which causes that local downloaded file has a newer time and producing the re upload. This process generates the undesired loop of download & upload.

In order to debug the issue, we would need that you provide us some information about which operating system are you using, filesystem of synced local folders, permissions of those folders, ... any detail could lead us to the culprit of the problem.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards.

Hi there. Old post but this started to happen to my the other day. Issue only occurs while trying to sync folders between Windows and Linux. Arch in my case. Between Windows OSes sync ok. I don't know if it contributes to something but in my case the mega folder is in a different hdd than the OSes in all the situations. Haven't had an issue until recently and cannot pinpoint what changed exactly in the directory. Specific 106 specific files keeps rolling over, not the whole folder. I take it that it maybe has something to do with the linux version of the app.

I've also started to encounter this, happening between two Win 11 PCs using the MegaSync client (5.12.0, 32-bit, e77b973). It is especially harmful because the endless bounce will eventually exceed the transfer quota and disable sync for all files.

Sync'ing the clock/time settings between both machines did not help. However, the problem appears to be related to file size / transfer speed - any file below 30MB works fine for me; above that I hit the endless loop. There appears to be a problem with the "age" of the file being effected by the time it takes to transfer it.

Hi MEGA,

I'm experiencing a persistent syncing loop with MEGA Sync. Recently, new/modified files continuously upload/download between my two computers. It seems MEGA Sync perceives recently downloaded files as new versions, triggering endless re-uploads and re-downloads.

I've tried clearing the "debris/rubbish" folders and reinstalling MEGA Sync on both machines, but the issue persists. This is causing significant bandwidth usage and hindering file management.

Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Having this issue. Like @Xenon130 there seems to be a threshold of around 30 MB. Files bigger than that will almost always enter that loop and thrash my transfer quota. Only solution is to zip the file to something smaller, or just delete it. That's bad for a cloud app.

Contacted MEGA support by email and their fix worked for me!

Beforehand I removed from MEGA the problematic files.

  1. Pause (uncheck) the corresponding sync path/s in all devices.

  2. Close the Desktop app and delete the local Rubbish folder located in the root of your synced folder.

  3. Install the latest version of our Desktop app on all your computers by reinstalling it from this link: https://mega.io/desktop (please DO NOT uninstall anything or log out, simply install again).

PS: Ensure you have your Recovery Key backed up in case you forget your password and need to reset it: https://mega.nz/keybackup

  1. After reinstalling on all devices, do this for each device (sequentially, first on device1, then device2, etc):

a. Select Advance mode (for stall issues). b. Resume (check) the corresponding sync path/s and immediately reboot them (right click on the sync - Reboot). Currently, a sync cannot be rebooted if it is paused, hence why it needs to be resumed first. c. Let it sync, making sure there are no issues. If everything goes well, then go on with device 2.

After doing the steps, I added the problematic files back and it worked directly.
