MegaSync crashing Ubuntu 18.04 with custom GTK themes
Hello,
Just thought I'd report that my Ubuntu system was consistently crashing (freezing then logging me out and having to repeatedly sign in) as soon as MEGASync started. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the problem persisted - and it only occurred when MEGASync was installed. I solved it by reverting my GTK application theme back to the default (Adwaita), specifically using GNOME Tweaks.
I'm imagining it's just some teething issues with the relatively new software but nonetheless thought reporting it might be useful. I don't know many more specifics past those below or completely understand the problem, but would be happy to try to help if you have any questions.
Specifications of system at times of crash: MegaSync 3.6.6 (99a46c) Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS ~8GB RAM 64 bit GNOME 3.28.2 GTK Application theme: Sierra-dark-thin (https://github.com/vinceliuice/Sierra-gtk-theme)
I have the same problem with Ubuntu 18.04.2 when I activate the Adapta GTK theme, among others. It also happens with LinuxMint. Do you plan to try to fix the problem?
There were some fixes to prevents some Qt crashes that happened when not using default themes. Are you using the latest MEGAsync version available (4.0.2)? If so, please, if you don't mind see if launching megasync with some of these variables fixes that: DO_NOT_SET_DESKTOP_SETTINGS_UNAWARE, DO_NOT_UNSET_QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME & DO_NOT_OVERRIDE_XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
To launch with them, please first close megasync (cogwheel -> exit), and then execute it in a console like this:
DO_NOT_SET_DESKTOP_SETTINGS_UNAWARE=1 megasync
megasync executed with the variant. Now we only have to wait to see if the system is blocked or not. Thanks for the info
