file versioning: for how many days? for how many file versions?

Open matteoraggi opened this issue 6 years ago • 9 comments

Hi, I can't find on the web the number of fiel versions saved from megasync and if there is a limit of time.. 30 days? is it possible to change the number of fiel versions and days?

What this is from 2018?! Damn 2018...thats almost 3 Years ago and nobody has written anything here. Maybe I should think about using another sync service... Okay back to topic: For me it looks like its not possible to configure the file versioning. Seems like its holding it forever until you delete it. But this does not make any sense. If I have like 100000 Files on my Cloud Drive I don't want to store every version of the files. If the system will do it like that, after a while it will have very many versions of very many files => Not really good option. Would be nice to be able to configure it for holding versioning files for like 30 days or maybe a year if needed. So please devs tell me something about that? Thanx.

Getting an answer from MEGA is MEGAHARD. I'd like to know an answer to this question too. How many versions max? Is there an age limit?

Almost 4 years unanswered. The developers/people running this repo are unbelievably bad at their job. Seems like the whole mega project/product is just running on fumes.

Seems like that don't answer to any issue here...just had a look last answered issue was in 2017...I just wrote them using the abuse mail. Maybe somebody twigs it...

Hello, we apologise for the delay in getting back to you. File versioning has no expiration and the limit is 100 versions. You can delete all older file versions at once to make space or disable file versioning altogether in your account settings. Please check instructions here https://help.mega.io/files-folders/restore-delete/file-version-history You can also email [email protected] if you have questions or if you need any help. Thank you.

File versioning has no expiration and the limit is 100 versions.

Why is it limited? Even for paying customers? What does it matter how many versions for a file the user uses? As far as I'm aware, every version affects storage space. And why don't you tell this in your help centre articles? You do realize that a limited versioning makes Mega essentially useless for backup purposes? Your service is just a sync service and isn't a reliable backup solution. Good to know... finally.

100 versions is meant to be the per-file limit. There is no overall limit for total number of file versions within an account. We will pass on your feedback to our team regarding the Help Centre article. Thank you.

100 versions is meant to be the per-file limit.

I very well understood that, and that was what I criticised.

Finally after 4 Years somebody is answering :D. If I want to use sync as a backup solution it makes no sense to a have 100 versions of a file. Would be better if I can configure it by myself how many versions I want to keep or even better configure the expiration date.
