su and sudo return in Killed

On my galaxy tab s5e (rooted) when using linux deploy on debian/ubuntu (havent tried others) when i ssh into it and type su or sudo i just get a response Killed

$ su

Killed

Edit: after further testing, when i log into ssh as root (changing the username to root and reconfiguring then using ssh root@localhost to login) it does work fine

Same problem on Samsung SM-T590 with Resurrection Remix 8.6.4 (Android 10) and Magisk 21.1

Would you please share the steps you have i am having same problem in my galaxy note 9 exynos rooted with magisk
