Upgrading Quality
This is a question/possible feature request, feel free to close it immediately or delete it entirely if desired:
I'm wondering, if a file gets downloaded while YouTube is still processing (like when the max quality available is 1080p right after upload and 4k a few hours later), will TubeSync go back next index and upgrade that 1080p file to 4k? if not, would there be a way to add a check for this?
Thank you for this awesome piece of software. I love it so far!
Hi, thanks for the issue. That's a reasonable idea and should be possible without too much effort. Not a bad suggestion. I'll pop it on the wishlist.
Question relating to this topic. Now that YouTube is going to pay wall 4K content behind YouTube premium subscriptions is tube sync still going to be able to grab 4K videos without having to sign in with a premium account in some way? I only download in 1080 anyways I'm just curious.
Most likely, no, any videos with 4K paywalled off behind premium won't be downloadable by TubeSync.
TubeSync is pretty much just a web interface wrapper around yt-dlp and yt-dlp can only download what is visible on the YouTube website itself. If there was a work-around where yt-dlp could bypass the premium requirement for future 4K videos I would imagine it would be patched pretty quickly.
Technically you should be able to download 4K videos that are behind a premium subscription paywall if you have a subscription and use your cookies with TubeSync, assuming you are comfortable with that level of risk of course.
