Implement tags for notes

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened this issue 9 years ago • 7 comments

Navigation would become more comfortable if you could not only group notes
in a tree but also specify tags (keywords) for them. Such feature is
implemented in Techno Notes Manager as you can see on screen-shot (
http://www.td-soft.net/screenshots/tnm_tags.jpg ) Tags there organized in a
tree where root nodes are tag names and nested nodes are notes.

  • Added labels: Type-Enhancement
  • Removed labels: Type-Defect

Tagging is important for me as well. How it could be designed can be seen at
Shotwell (simple) for Linux or a more sophisticated way at Yojimbo on MacOS X.

I would like to see tagging or labels also. I like the way Wikidpad does it.
You add a tag in the note itself (something like : [Project A:People]. When
added to the note "John Doe" then this note is added in the dynamic view under
Project A and then People.

In this way you can create dynamic views (lists) in one place that contains
notes that are scattered around your notebook. Notes can also be added to
multiple dynamic views by adding more tags in the note. In that case one note
is used in multipe dynamic views and changing the contact information in that
note will update it for all dynamic views.

That is what makes this such a nice feature.

  • Added labels: ui, notebook

Agreed, it would help locating notes. A simple character in front of a word
could be used for that, e.g. like zim does it (@tag).

I'll suggest another approach. Instead of a folder tree (as we have now) and a "flat" list of tags, the two could be combined in one. That is, the hierarchical folder tree could become a hierarchical tree of tags. The only difference will be that a note can have more than one tag, which would be equivalent to it being in more than one folder. Left clicking on a tag will show the notes associated with that tag (as is now the case with left-clicking on a folder); while right clicking and selecting "add tag to ..." will add the tag to the present note. I would also suggest that when viewing a note, in it's tag list, tab completion be implemented; and that up-arrow move to the tag one higher in the tree, while down arrow could generate a selectable list of that tag's sub tags.

The only complication I see is that the same name might be used for a tag at two (or more) different places in the tag hierarchy. A>>...>>"tag" and B>>...>>"tag". On searching for "tag" the results might be divided into two (or more) groups labeled as:

A>>...>>"tag"
... various results ...

B>>...>>"tag"
... various other results ...

etc.

(Or not!).

/DA.

Good day. I recently came across to KeepNotes and I am very attracted to it but I also need the feature such as tagging. I just want to know if there is any way I can use that feature. I've done some searching but I didn't find any and found this forum instead. I know years have passed since the last comment, and I am sorry to bother you.
