Remove Oculus (Meta Quest) data from BCD

What would you like to see added to BCD?

I would like to remove Oculus (Meta Quest) data in BCD 7.0 for the following reasons:

  1. The data is not used by MDN or Caniuse. It is rather unlikely that any BCD consumer is using the data (see point 3).
  2. The browser has mirror statements in 2.2k files, and explicit support statements only in 20 files.
  3. Release data was last updated 1.5 years ago, and the latest tracked version 23.0 was released on 2022-08-15. The data is therefore significantly outdated, and is hardly useful to determine support in current versions of the browser.
  4. According to BCD meeting notes, Oculus engineers committed to updating their data in 2022, but no significant contributions have been made since then, and the engineer who drove addition to BCD appears to be no longer working on the browser.

How impactful do you think this enhancement will be?

The removal of Oculus data will:

  • Increase overall data quality,
  • Reduce package size,
  • Reduce maintenance cost,
  • Simplifies contributions and reviews slightly (one less browser = one less support statement to write/copy/read).

Do you have anything more you want to share?

If the data is still used, then it should be extracted to a separate NPM package instead.
