Unable to collect data from Safari 8 or earlier on iOS

Follow the README setup instructions on some server with HTTPS:

$ . ./scripts/dev_env.sh
$ npm run rebuild
$ npm run serve

The use "Safari on iPhone 6" on BrowserStack with iOS 8 and visit the data collection tool. The 4 boxes will be blank and it's not possible to collect any data: bs_realios_mobile_iphone 6-8 0

It works on more recent iPhones, but seemingly not on anything older than Safari 8.
