Bug: "content before link" is not styled with background color in Live Preview.

"content before link" (for example emoji) is not styled with background (aka pill) color in Live Preview (unless it is rendered, for example in table, callout or dataview)

This is mostly deliberate because it was pretty much impossible to get the pill around the emoji and the link together. It would basically create a pill around the emoji and the link separately. But I agree it's inconsistent... Maybe at some point I'll try to see if I can improve this.
