Distortion when animating container scroll with jquery

Click outisde the scrollable area so the scrollbar's keyboard shortcuts don't trigger. Then use Home or End to make an animated scrollbar using jquery's animate. Here I see the rail losing it's shape for a while, before returning to normal.
