@opti-mix Your generalized proposal makes sense for the long-term but I don't have bandwidth right now for that kind of refactoring. I will attempt to do what I proposed here...

@Lewuathe It's the `steps` parameter from the the Slice operator of ONNX (Stride/step means the same thing).

For scratch operands we use a scale of 0.0 to signal a don't care value. I guess changing it to a value of 1.0 won't hurt.
