Feature Req: Expand the list of Type Folio/USB keyboard shortcuts
Here’s my idea for the list of keyboard shortcuts we briefly discussed during the Discord meeting.
Should be very helpful for users looking to get the most out of a Type Folio with their rM2 or a USB keyboard with their rM1.
I did my best to avoid key combinations that conflict with existing ones. Hopefully I’ve also avoided any native experimental ones.
My Type Folio is set to the Windows style of key combinations because it uses Ctrl for most commands instead of Alt, and I prefer the larger key which also happens to be on the edge of the keyboard for easier use. That’s the reason for my “Ctrl” preference in so many of these shortcuts. Also, I know many keyboards don’t have Option or Alt-Option keys, in that case I suppose they could use Alt or FN instead.
Please let me know if you would like me to clarify anything. And as always, we appreciate all your great work!
Shortcuts:
-
[ ] (1) Toggle WiFi on and off, for quick syncing [Ctrl + S]
-
[ ] (2) Export, or Email but I would prefer Export [Ctrl + E]
-
[ ] (3) Rename the document [Ctrl + Shift + R]
Although there’s a native shortcut to bring up the Recents/Favorites list (Ctrl + Tab), the two shortcuts below would be much faster. Ideally, they would also work from the files directories just like the native shortcut.
-
[ ] (4) Open one of the most recently opened documents [Ctrl + Shift + 1, 2, 3, etc.]
-
[ ] (5) Open a favorite document, “1” being the most recently added [Ctrl + Option + 1, 2, 3, etc.]
For some reason reMarkable did not add a Windows shortcut to jump the cursor to the start or end of the page, which is Alt + Up-arrow/Down-arrow when using the Mac style.
-
[ ] (6) Cursor moves to top of the page/bottom of the page [Ctrl + Option + Up-arrow/Down-arrow]
-
[ ] (7) Swipe pages [Ctrl + Option + Left-arrow/Right-arrow]
-
[ ] (8) Scroll toward the bottom of the page [Hold down Alt-Option + Spacebar]
The up and down arrows only scroll by moving the cursor, so as a result it only works in notebooks and not in PDFs, plus it’s very choppy. These scrolling shortcuts would be helpful when scrolling with the intention of reading (so not in type mode), whether it’s in a notebook or a PDF.
- [ ] (9) Scroll toward the top of the page [Hold down Alt-Option + Shift + Spacebar]
Whenever there’s a popup with a “Cancel” option, such as the one for renaming a bookmark or when you hit Ctrl + F (or Alt + F) to find a word, an Escape or Cancel shortcut would be very useful.
-
[ ] (10) Escape key/Cancel/Close any popup menu [Ctrl + Shift + 1]
-
[ ] (11) Screen refresh [Ctrl + R]
And even though these features don’t yet exist…
-
[ ] (12) Split screen, for when the feature is finalized [Ctrl + T]
-
[ ] (13) Take a screenshot [Ctrl + Shift + 3]
-
[ ] (14) Lets you select and screenshot a portion of the screen [Ctrl + Shift + 4]
I would love those shortcuts for screenshots, similar to what I use on my Mac. If they’re doable I’ll make an issue for the feature.
(Just for reference, I use the UK English layout)
