Feature Req: Bookmarks UI/UX redesign
What I think would be great, though, is to make the bookmark function reMarkable style.
I mean it like this:
One click on a bookmark opens a menu just like the labels (exactly the same - design much nicer than bookmarks now).
Bookmarks list at the top in the same design as the labels (nicer and doesn't take up as much space as square icons - icons get bigger according to the text - see photo 1).
At the bottom have the option to create a new bookmark (the "+" icon) When you click to create a bookmark, make it in the same design as the tags (see photo 2 and 3)
I guess I don't need a bookmark icon in the top menu when I have an icon in the panel (optional). I probably don't need a page number next to the bookmark name (optional). I would leave the option for even a long press for a quick bookmark without a name (or just the page number).

I tend to have a lot of bookmarks (~ 60) in my documents and rely on them being in alphabetical order. I hope that any implementation will support this.
Oh, please, change the look of the tabs - that would be totally awesome (I understand that some people like the bingo style). Question - have 2 looks?
Alphabetical order of the bookmarks wouldn't be bad. But order by page number is very useful (I could see this as a toggle button).
Thank you very much.
Currently in portrait mode you may have a little bit over 60.
Question - have 2 looks?
Frankly speaking, I am considering this ;)
The tags are at the bottom it would make more sense to me to have those buttons near each other.
From the bottom: Settings - original Share - original Template - original Tags - original Bookmarks - hack Content - hack 4x square (image) - original
This will put them in a better position. Then it could be from the icon up and maybe there would be more space?
I wonder how much space it would take up if the design was like the tags? :)
@mb1986 When are you gonna give us a customizable bar? 2 settings (landscape, portrait)? :)
Please remember I am not developing the rM application. I am only providing small improvements and tweaks :)
Dude, your modifications are more than just "small" tweaks. Your modifications take reMarkable to the next level.
I understand, is it difficult to configure in the settings where to place what tool? Assign order numbers in the settings?
settings_rePanel: { [ { order: 1, text: "Settings}, { order: 2, text: "Share"}, { order: 3, text: "Template"}, { order: 4, text: "Tags"}, ... ],
Maybe just give an option and a link to a file that the user writes and adds to reMarkable?
@mb1986 Will the display issues in landscape (only half of the toolbar button and only 30 bookmarks showing) be addressed in this one or should it have its own issue opened?
I think it may be addressed in this one or in https://github.com/mb1986/rm-hacks/issues/88.
I've just improved the corner icon in terms of writing/tapping and I've moved the bookmark name input field into the top bar (similarly to tags). Will be delivered in 0.0.9.
I'm looking forward to it.
I tend to think that the bookmarks button should be next to the tabs button and the content of the box should look like the tabs: same roundness of the buttons. Maybe the number of the page should be just before the bookmark name with a small dash (but on the same line, unlike it is now) or in parenthesis. If there is no bookmark for this page, I think there should be a dashed or grayed bookmark button showed when the toolbar is displayed to show the bookmark button position. So Yeah I agree with your initial proposal
I would consider a way to have many bookmarks displayed around the page to be able to work and switch to another page really quickly. Maybe a toolbar on the right with invisible background and elided text, that would show up at the same time as the regular toolbar? or that would be toggled by a button in the current bookmark tool?
Wow this bookmark feature is gonna change my workflow so much !
Set aside design, how do you guys use bookmarks? Do you label after bookmarking or simply bookmark pages you want to refer back to?
I work with a PDF calendar and have the current month, week and day marked. When I move to any page, I can quickly go to today's day. Even though I have a lot of hepertext links, the bookmark is great.

I'm using them to generate my own table of contents in all my documents. To help me reference story notes faster when drafting on the Freewrite, and to review highlighted sections in studying material.
Also want to do that for my giant PDF thesaurus, but looks like I'm gonna need quite a few more rows for that:
@mb1986 Can you please make the bookmarks list shift up by one row every time a new bookmark extends it beyond the available space? That would allow up to 108 bookmarks in portrait mode.
I think I've put it lower as suggested, somewhere near tags first.
I can also see another small bug on your screen - not needed borders (black lines) at the bottom of the bookmarks grid. I'll fix it as well.

Will that result in fewer items?

Ha! I thought about mentioning that but felt that it was low priority 😆
thanks @PepikVaio and @rudy0ne explaining how you use bookmarks.
@mb1986 there's also a bug when tap on bookmark icon on left, which end up with a line straight across when there's no bookmark and disable first last page in setting.

Still nothing...
@mb1986 it was ok then came back again. Try these steps.
- enable first page bookmark and last page bookmark
- back, back
- create a new notebook
- close notebook
- disable first page bookmark and last page bookmark
- back, back
- tap to open notebook previously created
- tap on bookmark icon
I did the above and line appears as my screenshot above.
I've just done exactly the steps and I cannot see the line unfortunately 😔
Could it because I'm on reMarkable 2?
It was ok for a while then bug came back out when I enabled/disabled first last page bookmark. No big deal, thought I mention this weird line.
@mb1986 I edited your photo to show a visual example of the flexible bookmarks list I was suggesting:

It would be better to make content, right?

Is it better that way?
Yes! But now just by looking at the button's new placement I'm worried that I'll accidentally tap the layers or tags button while trying to access the bookmarks quickly.
Those buttons are as big as a cow - you gotta hit it :)
@mb1986 - Where will the content be?
@mb1986 How about adding an optional function to the long press on the corner button which would bring up the bookmarks list? (But configurable separately from the tap gesture so that we could still turn that one off.) This would allow accessing the list quickly while working with the toolbar closed.
