[Question] Alternative File Paths

Can anyone explain what this option does, and the benefit or difference of having it turned on or off is?

this was a request from people who use widgets on the screen that use legacy file urls which were supported in old android versions. With this option the legacy file url could be connected with document url so you can open an file using that widget easily. I do not think this feature has many users and I think to remove from settings...
