Have QGC for Android support UDP RTCM Data

Open dlwalter opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

Since Android doesn't currently support connecting to an RTK GPS over serial, and it may not be possible to connect multiple serial connection to QGC, would it be feasible to support a UDP connection sending RTCM data (or possible RTCM data wrapped up as the mavlink message GPS_RTCM_DATA over UDP) and route that message up to the autopilot.

This would be interesting to see! We’d probably use it if it existed.

Now that https://github.com/mavlink/qgroundcontrol/pull/13634 is merged, I'd like to discuss with the maintainers the right approach to support this. The new NTRIP manager class currently handles RTCM.

MIssion planner's RTK GPS configuration supports UDP or TCP or Serial for RTCM corrections without requiring NTRIP. It would be great to have feature parity. This allows using a base station on the same LAN.

Given the free NTRIP casters in the cloud are not super reliable and require good cell connection, ability to rely on a local RTCM stream would be more robust.

I have time to implement this, but could use guidance on how to refactor the new NTRIP module, or whether we should make a new settings page for RTCM and then just reuse the RTCM class. I can see reasons for both.
