Ability to create portals from whatsapp. Is this gone?

Open CyberPingU opened this issue 1 year ago • 10 comments

Hello, as far as I remember there was a command to create a portal from matrix to whatsapp: if mautrix-whatsapp bot was inside a room, issuing something like !whatsapp create or !whatsapp create-portal. This command appears to be gone. Is there a way to achieve the same? Or is it planned?

Having the same thing on mine as well. Was a little surprised when !wa create returned unknown command. The entire help section on creating portals seems to be missing which makes me unsure if this is a bug.

It was in the patch notes for version 0.11.0 that group management is not ready.

It would be cool to know if it's on the road map or not planned ...

according to the docs you can use the command "pm" to create portals, and the bot seems to know about it despite not being listed in the help text: https://docs.mau.fi/bridges/python/telegram/creating-and-managing-chats.html?highlight=pm#creating-portals Is that what you want?

The link you're showing is for telegram, not for WhatsApp, as far as I saw... anyhow pm is a command to open chat with somebody, not to create portals to groups, is it? If it's the case I don't see how to use it

In case this helps anyone else:

I used to create private chats with Whatsapp contacts using pm +123456789 in the chat with the Whatsapp Brigde Bot; this somehow stopped working, although I got a reply from the bot:

Found 123456789 / +123456789 (WA)

(But no chat was created).

After going through the help output a few times, I suddenly realized I had to use start-chat +123456789 instead, which promptly created the chat.

Does "Chat" mean room or DM? I can only create rooms, no DMs anymore. Except for the existing DMs the bridge won't create anything but rooms, which is not what I want, when I want my chat to appear in "Persons" (in Element)

I'm not certain how to explain, but the chats have all properties of DMs (they are marked as "person" as far as I can tell...)

I got it sorted now. There's a FAQ about that issue here

Not quite what you are looking for, but this could help for a workaround incase you are trying to link groups of different messagers: https://github.com/mautrix/signal/issues/572#issuecomment-2571396266
