Messenger -> Matrix - sending stickers in encrypted chats results in Failed to transfer media

When someone sends me a sticker on messenger, element displays it as Failed to transfer media

Sending messenger avatars works as expected, only stickers are affected

having the same error now on 4.0.623

I just experience the same issue, but for me it is only happening for a couple of days. I'm not sure what may be the reason behind the ~9 month time difference.
