Question: Replace File->Open with koffee?

Is this possible? If so, koffee would be much more useful for me.

Thanks.

Hey sitedyno, could you explain a little more about what you mean? Do you want to replace a Koffee feature or do you mean opening a file from windows explorer in Koffee?

Apologies for the confusion. An example use case: I have Firefox set to ask me where to save downloads by default instead of saving everything to Downloads. It would be nice to have Firefox open koffee and then use koffee to specify the save location & file name instead of the default windows dialog.

No I don't want to replace a koffee feature.

Usually if I want to directly open a file I will hit the windows key and type the name of the file until it shows up and open it from there.

You're talking about replacing Windows' Save File Dialog. That would be a really nice feature and definitely something I want as well, but I'm not sure it is possible and if it is it doesn't look simple. Some cursory research turned up this SO thread. Right now I'm focusing on core features of a file manager like searching and multi-select, but if someone wants to follow this lead and contribute that would be awesome!

I randomly came across Directory Opus, which is commercial software that acts as a complete replacement for Windows Explorer. This proves that it is doable at least.

It does seem to be a replacement in most ways. I dug into the documentation a bit and found the following: nor does it replace the standard File Open / Save dialogs in other applications. So it doesn't seem like it would work for the use case I had asked about sadly. Seems like a nice mature project though.
