Feature Idea: Be able to drag 'n drop cards from one Board to another

Summary: Be able to drag 'n drop cards from one Board to another

How important this is to me and why:

Importance: Medium

Use cases:

  1. At the moment, I have to delete the card on one board and create it on another board. Being able to drag 'n drop a card onto another board would save time.

Thanks @lindy65! This feature has some intricacies to work out, including:

  • How to deal with different card properties between boards?
    • Maybe we only move the properties that exist in both, with a warning to the user?
  • How to deal with boards in different workspaces?
    • Maybe a copy card / paste card system might work better?
  • How to move multiple cards?
    • Copy / paste multiple cards?
  • Make a copy vs. move?
    • Again, copy / paste?

Open to additional input on how to best support this.

Hi @chenilim thanks for picking this suggestion. Are card properties really an issue? When using Trello I can just copy a card & paste it into another board w/o regard to the properties. Copy & Paste would be better in a multi workspace setting. Drag&Drop should be offered in a single workspace with multiple boards / lists.

The deluxe edition would be to have the question if you want to migrate the properties with the card or not.

Related comment from @emilyacook: it would be useful is that both a "duplicate" and a "move" option would be nice, it would be especially nice if "duplicate" linked changes between them. Sometimes I want to completely move a card, and sometimes I just want to create a copy (i.e. if I was working on something on another board, and wanted to queue it as an item in a meeting, i could duplicate it without having to move the whole card).

Hi @chenilim - as an example of how this feature is implemented elsewhere, Jira handles differing properties between projects through the use of wizard which will request the user to map property fields and values between projects - this can also be done in bulk but I personally think that solution is more fiddly than necessary and isn't particularly intuitive. Probably ideally, in a scenario where you move a card from project A to B, unique properties (understanding that is probably the main problem to be solved, ie how do you work out if a property is genuinely unique between projects) from A should be appended to B, with the user being given the ability to merge properties of the same type if desired (perhaps present a warning that a particular property was imported from another project as a by-product of moving?). This would hopefully make it super easy to drag-and-drop cards between projects without a wizard, and then it's on the user to clean up/merge properties as they see fit.

This is a pretty big deal for me. We generally have a backlog board and an active sprint board created from templates for each sprint. I'd love to be able to drag tasks from the backlog to the active sprint.

we also really rely on such a feature

I just commented my thoughts regarding this at https://github.com/mattermost/focalboard/discussions/3282 I really hope this feature is implemented.

Mattermost decided to made Focalboard „community driven“. So i doubt it will happen something
