Feature Request: ability to reference other tasks
Summary: Have a short way of referencing tasks, e.g. #1239 or BOARD-213 .
How important this is to me and why:
Importance: Medium
Use cases:
- Reference other tasks, e.g. "Similar to what we did in BOARD-213"
- Use container tasks, e.g. "This is done once we complete BOARD-213, BOARD-501 and BOARD-945"
Additional context / similar features: Any examples of good implementations of this capability.
Thanks @rombert. Agree we want this. Have to think more about how to get the reference-system right. My initial thinking is to add a "reference" content type (that you can add like text or images to card), which points to another card. This formally links cards, and we can later crawl the relationships to find dependencies, etc.
We might also need a type of relationship (e.g. depends-on), or direction of relationship.
You bring up a good point that there should also be an easy way for users to specify them, like #
Welcome additional input from others: have you seen referencing systems that you particularly like?
Indeed this feature is very needed. One that I already saw was in Quire. Does the same thing.
I was about to create a similar request, but indeed this would be a very useful feature that most other tools have implemented. Any news on that ?
We would also like this feature. It allows a milestone/sprint card which has a due date that other cards can reference directly
without this ability project management is not really possible
@chenilim i like the idea of a general purpose "reference" type which could be used to reference another item. doing it in a flexible way that isn't too tied to issue tracking/project management seems like a good idea.
We just tried focalboard and it is great, but indeed we are looking for such a feature. To say "this task depends on this task" and to have an overview about the dependencies is a huge deal in project management.
+1 for task dependencies. It's the number one thing I'm looking for right now. Not sure if nextclouds kanban allows it and I don't want to pay for ClickUp for custom fields.
