win XP and v0.66

Open cfpp2p opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

With some older versions of Windows XP, after installing the latest version (currently Ext2Fsd-0.66.exe), I had to manually overwrite ext2fsd.sys to that of Ext2Fsd-0.66.zip\Ext2Fsd\Setup\ w2k\i386\ext2fsd.sys (or Ext2Fsd-0.66.7z). Otherwise the service wouldn't start correctly and the manager wouldn't close either.

Windows XP sp2 and 3

Windows then wouldn't shutdown or restart without a power down sequence.

You tried both XP sp2 and sp3 ? Neither works ? The OS is 32bit given that you copied w2k\i386\ext2fsd.sys to system driver path.

I'm running a XP system (always updated) and couldn't catch your issues. Could you describe the details of your XP system ? Or could you just mail me a copy of ntoskrnl.exe ?

The system in question is ancient.

ntoskrnl.exe.ZIP.txt si.NFO.ZIP.txt si.txt

note: github wouldn't accept my ZIPs so rename/remove the .txt extensions to unzip them.

a little testing with v0.69 doesn't help, although I don't know what's changed since 0.68

Thanks. I'll install an old XP system to investigate :) Will get back here once I get clues.

With Ext2Fsd-0.69.1034-08.14.exe I don't experience the problems. But in order to shut Windows down properly -- safely remove hardware -- remove dead drive letters, then shutdown happens properly.
