Improve the realtime page, display more data and graphics

Open triplesixman opened this issue 2 years ago • 19 comments

Hello,

Google analytics (Universal) has a bug since a few weeks on the realtime page and shows false numbers. According to what they said, they don't plan to fix this bug because they have developed the GA4 version. https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/228201905#comment283

But this new version does not allow to see the number of people connected on the site nor the number of page views per minute.

So I'm looking for an alternative and I found Matomo, but I notice that the Realtime page you propose doesn't give much information.

Do you think it would be possible to add the number of connected in real time and display the number of page views per minute? If we could find this same data on Matamo it would be great https://online-metrics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Real-Time-overview.png

On a daily basis, we used realtime to ensure that our sites were stable, combined with a monitoring system under grafana. This allowed us to intervene as quickly as possible, especially when we noticed a drop in page views per minute, for example. I think that following the bug of google analytics many will seek an alternative.

Hi @triplesixman Thanks for creating this issue. Adding some more realtime widgets is something that seems to be requested more often in the last weeks. We currently have no specific plans to implement that, but this might be something we should consider.

Thank you for your answer.

I'm going to find out on my side to have this tool developed. I don't use Matomo yet but do you think a developer will be able to implement this via a plugin he would create, without impacting the rest of the Matomo platform and future updates?

Hey @triplesixman. Yes. That should be possible

Doesn't this widget do the job? image

display the number of page views per minute

I actually just came here to suggest the exact same!

The Page Views Per Minute graph from the screenshot above was REALLY useful to me, especially to easily investigate whether there was some intermittent downtime in the past 30 minutes.

I think this is the only thing I miss from Google Analytics, that Matomo doesn't have yet.

Thanks!

Question: What is your main goal for using Matomo? Answer: ...It would be awesome to get a realtime view that shows like a realtime view that shows visitors per second.

Yet another request, hard on the heels of the one above...

is there real time report like google analytics and how many page can be seen at ones

atom-box avatar Jun 27 '22 20:06 atom-box

And this request:

"Question: What is your main concern about Matomo? Answer: Some real time data about most viewed pages, by country, real time objectives, etc, just like what Google Analytics 3 does. Thanks !"

To make this more focused, should we change the title to "Add Page Views Per Minute graph to Real Time visits" or similar?

A user writes:

"In relation to Real-time. In Google Analytics, in the same page where I see the "visitors online" count, there was also a graph next to it where I could see the Page Visits per minute, in the past 20 (or 25) minutes. This was a very important graph for me, so I could see whether in the past 25 minutes there was an outage. For example, sometimes my website may not load at all for me for 2 or 3 minutes, but once I get back online, I could look at that graph and see if the Page Visits were at 0 during those minutes, to see if it was a global outage or "just me"."

A user writes:

"Can Matomo show something similar to the legacy GA "Top Active Pages"? That report simply showed the current pages with visitors on them (with a count of active users per page).

We're not looking for a processed report - we would like to see realtime active users grouped by page. "

A user tells us:

the realtime function of Google Analytics UA3 was very useful...(unlike Matomo it could show us) the most active pages ...At peak times it is very useful to see which content is performing rather than others .

In another issue was a similar suggestion:

It would be great if we had something similar here.. where we could see the the active sources and the last 30min (or one hour)..
