Cannot get the Matomo plugin to work on my WP site.

Right after I turn on the tracking, In the "Summary" I get:

Hi @skrasii thanks for creating this issue and apologies for the trouble. For some reason it seems there was no site created. Could you maybe deactivate AND uninstall the plugin and then install it again to see if it works afterwards?

I still struggle understanding how this could possibly happen unfortunately. Sorry about that. Is there any chance you could execute a MySQL query in your WordPress database in case you have access to it?

If so, could you execute this query and let me know what it returns?

Good idea, @tsteur!

Maybe the plugin (in some places) is trying to use the default wp_ prefix instead of wpdb->prefix. Turned out my hosting provider (for security reasons) generates a random prefix for each wp install.

@skrasii thanks for this. Can you maybe delete that entry like

DELETE FROM mlbs_options WHERE option_name like "matomo-site-id-%"

and then, if possible, wait for a while until the cron should ideally recreate this entry with a correct idSite.

This might not fix it though. In your original issue it was complaining about ID 716 and now ID 815. Yet at the same time in your system report I see that the table mlbs_matomo_site must have 0 entries as it says * Matomo sites found: 0. It makes me think like something is creating a site (hence the ID of the site increases every time) but then it deletes the actual site somehow again.

I'm actually wondering if the issue would be maybe fixed by going to WP Admin Dashboard -> Matomo Analytics -> Settings -> Advanced and there disable the setting for delete data on uninstall. Just curious if this changes anything over time. Could you maybe disable this setting before deleting the above entry?

@tsteur, yes the ID of the site increases every time I reinstall the plugin.

done. (before that I disabled the "data deletion on uninstall" setting). waited for a few hours, looks like the cron didn't start, since no entry has been recreated.

After I removed the DB entry, the error on the "Summary" page changed:

On the "Reporting" page the matomo still saying "An unexpected website was found in the request: website id was set to '907' ." Even though the matomo-site-id-1 db entry doesn't exist.

Sorry for all the forth and back @skrasii . The ID increased again by 100 from 815 to 907. I suppose you didn't uninstall it that often? That's why I'm thinking something might be uninstalling the plugin constantly or so.

@tsteur it is ok. I uninstalled it only once and the id changed from 815 to 907. But the cron didn't fire at all. I will be happy to provide more details if you need.

Could it be related to WP running on a subdomain?

It shouldn't be related to a subdomain. Any chance you are familiar with patching files in your WordPress?

Any chance you could replace the file wp-content/plugins/matomo/classes/WpMatomo/Site/Sync.php with the content of this: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/matomo-org/wp-matomo/28397b4c6cc5a0c0060045badffa147a54fdbfe4/classes/WpMatomo/Site/Sync.php . This represents the following change: https://github.com/matomo-org/wp-matomo/pull/440/files

then try to open this URL (you need to prepend your subdomain):

and then click on the Sync site button (if the page loads).
