Too much spacing between characters in mobile Edge
Issue Summary
I found the bug in this issue. In Edge for Android mobile, there are excess spacing between characters, but this does not occur in Edge for Windows.
Steps to Reproduce:
$$\mathit{xyz}\operatorname{sgn}\sin xyz$$
On Edge for Windows (expected):
On Edge for Android mobile (unexpected excess spacing):

- MathJax Version: 3
- Client OS: Android 10
- Browser: Edge 101.0.1210.53

If you view this webpage on mobile Edge, the math is not rendered the same as on desktop.
I'm not able to reproduce this on Android 11 with the same version of Edge on an actual device, nor in Android 10 on Saucelabs.com with their Samsung Galaxy S9 device. This was trying both your page linked above, and the MathJax.org live example.

On my device (Xiaomi Mi Max 3, MIUI 12 20.9.4 Beta), this problem can be reproduced. It seems weird that the same browser behaves differently on different Android devices. Cannot think of any reasons why this cannot be reproduced (or, why I have this issue).

It does seem strange, and I don't have any answers for you. But without being able to test it, I really don't know what to do to resolve the issue for you. I'm sorry not to be able to help!
