Difficult to OCR text that is not straight horizontal

I'm playing Voice of Cards which is a popular game I guess for those learning Japanese, a lot of the cards are not straight(?) like this: https://youtu.be/lajvBBPciMc?t=879 Whenever I get properly horizontal cards it works fine, but it doesn't seem to recognize or I get a blank box with no text.

Another interesting thing is, the OCR is actually happening, it just won't put an overlay on the screen for text that isn't horizontal enough. You can tell because the debug output includes the text that's being OCRed.
