Chromecast Groups / Devices don't show names
Hello,
On Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Previous version showed the names of the devices, now it just shows a bunch of numbers and letters. It will still stream to the Chromecasts, but I have no idea which is which till I select them. Not sure if there is anything I can do to change or test?
same thing here and I'm adding an odd thing: I just have one chromecast but it displays two!
to be precise: i'm on windows 10 pro 64bit too. The previous version correctly shows 1 chromecast but still without its name, just "Chromecast"- its uuid. The last version shows 2 chromecasts (and I only have 1), both with "Chromecast"-uuid. One it's the "right" uuid, the other I have no idea what it is and it doesn't work.
p.s. i really doubt there is someone with a chromecast connected to my wifi without my knowledge!
I 've got the same problem. I use Windows7 64bit. I have two chromecast audio devices. I gave them a name. One is called Keuken. The other Veranda. I put them in a group called Keuken + Veranda. I have 11 entries similar to these in the screenshot of topicstarter gradebg96.
How can I remove these entries? How can I see their proper names?
Same problem here.
I have this on BOTH 64bit and 32 bit machines. 4 video and 3 audio chromecasts.
Has one worked out this issue? Also, when you create groups from your Android phone will the pc see them or do you have to create groups from the pc (and if so , how?)?
Any news about this issue? I 've got twenty entries at this moment and have only two devices.
Same problem here on Win 10 64-bit.
Same issue, Win10 x64 on multiiple machines, both Wifi and LAN, I get all the devices, but there is a 20+ second lag and when disconnecting from one it might start casting to it again (no change in the UI) or maybe not and usually does not work on the next device I try to cast to.
*Also we have some groups setup that don't show up in the menu, and sometimes when we select one device it seems to cast to the group instead.
It's a bit manual, but you can maintain these entries by opening:
%appdata%\audio-cast\device-cache.json
The format's pretty self-explanatory: IP address and friendly name. I've no idea why the software no longer picks up the friendly names, but I've tested editing them and following a restart of audio-cast it uses the edited versions.
Deleting them is also harmless as it will continue to add any new devices it comes across.
@sahmeepee thanks a lot, it worked perfectly!
for me (win10 64 home) @sahmeepee worked fine for a while-- but now the orig alpha entries have reappeared, even though the .json file shows my preferred edited names. I searched my computer but dont find another .jspn file
Just like pfranks1 above, for me it worked for a while and now the device-cache.json seems to have no effect.
Aha! When the Chromecast device is online and connected to wi-fi when audio-cast starts, it ignores the name in device-cache.json If the device is offline when audio-cast starts, it will use the friendly name.
That is unexpected.
