Add "export filters" to data export options, allow exporting and importing of filtered word lists

Open Cassolotl opened this issue 6 years ago • 13 comments

Pitch

At the moment you can export and import your follows, blocks and mutes on the Data export tab in settings.

I think it would be cool if you could export your filtered words too, for importing at a new instance.

Motivation

When moving from one account to another, it would be an easy way to make your Mastodon environment safe at your new instance very quickly - speedily replicating your experience at a new instance.

Additional barrier to usability

I can't conveniently refer to the filter list on the old instance when setting up the filters on the new instance, because my filters are not visible on the old instance settings page when the migration redirect is in place.

Can I also make a request for exporting "hidden domains"? Afaik, currently we don't have that yet.

Sorry for posting on your thread, because I think it's related.

I still want this feature!

I just moved from queer.party to eldritch.cafe today and couldn't take my filters with me, and there are a LOT to enter manually, and in the mean time my feed is full of stuff that I would really love to not see.

Also, I can't conveniently refer to the filter list on the old instance when setting up the filters on the new instance, because my filters are not visible on the old instance settings page when the migration redirect is in place.

Devs more familiar with the mastodon codebase: is there any particular problem blocking this from being solved?

This must be extremely easy to do, and pretty useful also. I want this too.

I could also use this feature, thanks.

Maybe it's easier to have a generic import/export feature with a list of checkboxes for all mass-configurable features, like filters. So you can choose which configuration settings to export.

I'm in the middle of copying & pasting a lot of filters from one account to another, every time duplicating the other filter settings, too. Boy this is annoying.

The ability to export and import filters would allow people to collaboratively create shared filter lists, similar to shared block lists.

From a technical perspective the API already provides a format for doing the export and import: there are endpoints for listing all filters in a JSON format. What's required is the UI to support this. Adding to the import/export screen is the obvious place, but if we want to allow users to import individual filters, it might be easier to add that to the existing filter creation screen.

This is useful functionality for people migrating accounts, and for people who have accounts on different instances.

The ability to export and import filters would be immensely helpful.

I would love to have this feature too. I just moved from one instance to another. An export and import of the filters would help hereby.

It would also help to export and provide filters for easy download for others.

Please add this feature soon, for a better experience and usability.

I can't believe this request has gone unaddressed for almost five years. As the fediverse has grown and timelines are filling up faster, user-level moderation has become a must to stem the flood of content.

Filters are as essential for everyday use as block or mute lists, and in order for users to truly migrate their data to other instances, we should be able to export our filter settings as well.

Is it possible to prioritize this feature request for an export and import of filters?

HDValentin avatar Oct 20 '23 19:10 HDValentin

Start simple, just import/export all filters through the existing interface. Then think about new UI, selective import/export, etc.

I came here today (Dec 2023) to request this feature. Filters accumulate over time, and for some of them there can be significant work in finding the best settings. I feel it's as essential as being able to transfer your block list.

It would also be useful as a way of backing up your filters for situations like deleting one that has lots of keywords and that you subsequently want back.

I would appreciate if this feature could be implemented. I just moved to another Mastodon instance and I had a quite good filter list which is now completely lost, so I have to start from square one. That's not exactly helping in making moving between instances easy.

I have recently switched servers, and was rather surprised that you could basically export everything except this. I would also appreciate this feature.

It's baffling that in 2024, there isn't a straightforward feature allowing the import/export of blocked keywords (filters) on Mastodon.

The platform is inundated with undesirable content, making half of the scrolling experience a futile exercise.

  • Trump this, Ukraine that, garbage b$ here, blah blah blahhh, war, death, etc...

My intention is to explore, discover, and connect with others, but the lack of a quick import/export option for keywords hampers the enjoyment of using Mastodon.

p.s. - please add support for wildcard support too
