Pending option for adding to list
Pitch
Separate from requests to allow adding people you don’t follow to lists , I am requesting that you be able to put in a request to add such users to a list which will be automatically approved when (if) they allow you to follow them.
Motivation
It is easiest to add people to lists when you follow them, but this is not possible if the follow request requires approval. This means you have to remember the accounts you wanted to add to the list and go back later to check if you have been approved before doing so. Instead, you should be able to request to add them to the list at the same time you request to follow them, and have that (list-add request) approved when the follow is approved. They will not see this second request, but it will happen automatically.
Instead of seeing at 404 error, users will see a “pending” indicator.
#19727 implements this, but hasn't been merged yet
Glad this is being worked on. It is actually worse than I thought. Right now even if someone doesn't require approval to follow, it seems to take some time for some servers to recognize that they are on your follow list and so you get a 404 error until you try again 5 or 10 min later - but this is really annoying because you have to remember to go back to add these people and which lists you wanted to add them to.
I came here to request this too, including for the multi-minute delay case.
My dream version would have a follow-and-add-to-this-list option somewhere in the list infrastructure. as well as a import csv to both follows and list X.
