Push notifications sent three times
Hi,
I have the iOS app and a self hosted mastodon instance. When I receive push notifications, they come three times immediately. Is there a problem with push itself or with my instance?

I think I’ve just seen a variant of this. I had a badge with “3” on it, but only one “Blah has followed you” notification.
Weirdly, tapping the notification only removed it – without opening the app.
The notification tab in the app only had the one mentioned above, and the badge was cleared.
It seems to be a general problem with the notifications as I experience the same problem on another instance.
I’ve only had the similar issue to start with - it’s been fine since.
Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app? (perhaps a reboot between too)🤞🏼
I don’t know much about the push internals, but that may do over the coordination with the push server (assuming iOS creates new IDs for the same app).
@jmeosbn Well, perhaps it’s a bit too early, but… It worked now twice, that I only received one notification 🤞🤞🤞.
In the meantime it worked now 6 or 7 times for me, so I assume it is fixed for me. Tbh, I don’t really understand why reinstallation helped. Thanks for the hint, I’m happy that it’s working now.
For future people who encounter this issue it might be nice to add a “Reset Push Notifications” button to the Spicy Zone that cancels all your existing push notification subscriptions and re-requests them, maybe with a different device ID.
@j-f1 So, the reason for this problem is, that there were 3 push notification subscriptions?
Maybe! I’m not sure but since it’s no longer happening after the reinstall that was my guess.

I agree that a reset button would be a great help here - I doubt it happens much, but at least if it's there, it should be the first thing people try!
